Wide Format Scanner Technical Terms
8-Bit Color, 24-Bit Color, 48-Bit Color
When you scan in color, Colortrac wide format scanners scan in 48-bit color. This means that they capture trillions of colors.
These trillions of colors are then reduced down to “the best” 16.7 million colors to create a 24-bit color image, or to 256 colors to create an 8-bit color image.
Scanning in 48-bit color then reducing to 24-bit color or 8-bit color enhances the color fidelity of 24-bit color and 8-bit color images and improves shadow and highlight detail.
