GREEN COUNTS – Caring for Our Environment

Colortrac sees the green initiative as a key requirement for the company and is constantly working to make all of its products more environmentally friendly. This extends from individual electronic components through to the running of the factory, the packaging and also an awareness of the impact of the product and the materials used in it at the end of its useful life.

A newly established project team is investigating ways to reduce the environmental footprint of the company’s CO2 production and recently began to involve all Colortrac employees. The idea now challenges each staff member to come up with an innovative scheme to improve green performance.

Colortrac is reducing its environmental impact by:

  • Changing to use of recyclable plastic as a raw material wherever possible
  • Consolidating more shipments to reduce wooden pallet use
  • Altering logistics choices to increase use of sea and rail shipping while reducing air shipments
  • Removing excess plastic from its products
  • Removing use of plastic bags from packaging where possible
  • Issuing scanner software online or in reduced packaging wherever possible
  • Reducing internal plastic foam (EPE) protective packaging and replacing this with more environmentally friendly solutions
  • Switching to cardboard boxes produced from material with a higher recycled content
  • Reorganising factory production to save energy on factory lighting, heating and air-conditioning
  • Embracing a robust common parts, waste and stock-reduction regime

Methods of travel to offices, warehouses and factories is also being looked at to see if there are areas that can be optimised. Becoming greener is very much a team effort.
